Twenty Nine Knuts to a Sickle

This is a backlogged outfit that I wore early last week. I liked how the belt really pulled the outfit together, from defining the waist to balancing the dark legs and feet. As we all have seen, time and time again, I am a chronic belter. What about you guys? To belt or not to belt?

  1. I belt excessively. Almost every possible outfit can incorporate a belt, and what better way to accentuate the waist, create an hourglass figure, and keep things in place?

  2. Belting is the way to go! Although sometimes it's a nice change not to, it defines your waist so nicely! And I love the grey+brown+black in your outfit!

  3. I am a chronic belter, as you know, but I'm constantly looking for other ways to achieve proportions I like without belting (since, let's face it, some times, you just don't want to wear a belt!). I think some of this touches on what E. of academichic was saying the other day, and what Sal has said extensively, which is that a lot of how you feel about belts depends on how you feel about figure flattery "rules," and the extent to which creating as long and lean of an hourglass silhouette as possible is your highest dressing priority. Some days, that's totally true, but some days, I have other things on my mind.

  4. I really love the colours here - the mix of neutrals really works. The whole thing is well proportioned, too.

I'm a bit of a tentative new belter. I tried the belted scarf look for the first time only a few weeks ago, after the 30 for 30 started - I was sure it was going to add bulk and make me look thick through the middle, but I've found it's quite the opposite!
